ETHAN KUTULAS
KUTULASART
My name is Ethan Kutulas, and I make art for folks who love misery. I’m a character designer from Denver, Colorado who leans into the nihilism and horror tones in my work while maintaining energetic linework and fun, saturated color. I was first intrigued by art with the works of Bill Watterson, but much of my style is influenced by artists like Chris Bourassa and Jamie Hewlett. As such I trained a lot with traditional mediums but now focus mainly on digital work, though I have never lost my fondness for pen and pencil work. My art mainly is geared toward 16-35 year olds who feel a little concerned by the imminent and unavoidable Armageddon that appears to be hurtling toward us at an alarming pace, a sentiment I very much share.
I was born in Denver Colorado, and stumbled around frantically in my youth while trying to find a talent for myself. When art was revealed to be a fledgling skill in my repertoire, I decided to dedicate myself to squeezing all of the blood from that stone that I could muster. I enrolled in the Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in illustration (with a focus in concept art!)
I have been featured in several galleries and collections on campus, and one other gallery at 40west arts gallery, for their texture show, in which my piece was sold.
